Meet Dr. Akshay Garg: Pain & Spine Management Doctor
About
Akshay Garg, MD is a double board-certified, fellowship trained, interventional pain management physician and the founder of Capital Interventional Pain & Spine Center in Rockville, MD. He is a compassionate, patient-focused physician who offers the most advanced, multimodal pain-relieving procedures to address a wide range of painful and debilitating conditions, including spine-related pain, joint pain and arthritis, neuropathy, and sports-related injuries.
He is attentive to patients’ individual needs and believes that personalized care and state of the art therapies provide a focused approach that bring the best results and quality of life. His expertise includes non-surgical orthopedic care using non-opioid pain-relieving treatments performed under precise image guidance.
Originally from the metropolitan D.C. area, Dr. Garg completed his undergraduate and medical school training as a part of the highly selective seven-year dual degree B.A./M.D. program at The George Washington University School of Medicine. He went on to the Mount Sinai St. Luke’s- Roosevelt Hospital Center for internship, and stayed in New York City to complete his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Mount Sinai Hospital, one of the country’s most prestigious PM&R residency programs. He served as Chief Resident during his final year.
Dr. Garg subsequently completed a highly competitive ACGME-accredited Interventional Pain Medicine fellowship at the world-renowned Weill Cornell Tri-Institutional Pain Medicine Program. His rigorous training was centered at three esteemed New York institutions: The New York-Presbyterian Hospital, The Hospital for Special Surgery, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to founding the Capital Interventional Pain & Spine Center, Dr. Garg served as an Assistant Professor at the George Washington University where he focused on providing patient care, resident, fellow, medical student education, and clinical research.
Dr. Garg has published extensively in various Pain Medicine journals and textbooks and continues to remain involved in cutting edge research for the advancement of the field through national and international pain societies. He has been elected a Washingtonian Top Doctor annually, an honor voted on by his colleagues. Dr. Garg is double board certified in both Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
When not in the office, Dr. Garg enjoys spending time with his wife and two young boys. He’s a local foodie who loves trying new restaurants and enjoys working out on his Peloton. He’s also always cheering for a winning season for the local sports teams, especially the Washington Commanders!
